The Trauma-Sense Programme

A two-part training programme for coaches and health and wellbeing professionals.

Become trauma-aware and trauma-informed and help your clients to shift towards healing.

You’re a coach.

You want to help people.

In fact, you became a coach because you want to help people.

You can see that many people appear to be functioning but they are, in fact, just surviving due to the psychological, emotional, spiritual and physical impact of past trauma.

You recognise that not all trauma is the huge ‘headline-grabbing’ kind but that all trauma needs to be processed and healed to create space for a person to thrive.

You know that many of those with a trauma history are aware that something is not right and that they will often seek help from a coach in an attempt to move forward with their lives.

Unfortunately, even the best coaches - and I am sure that you are a brilliant coach - can inadvertently do harm to these clients if they are not trauma-informed.

And many coaches - perhaps including you? - can feel deeply concerned about working with clients who have a trauma history; often because they fear opening Pandora’s box and not being able to deal with the consequences.

But here’s the thing: we need coaches like you with your curiosity and compassion, to help create a trauma-informed world.

Imagine it: a world in which psychological trauma is recognised and understood; where it is met with empathy and compassion; and where it is prevented wherever possible. A world in which, by treating trauma early, with a holistic approach, we help those who feel broken to heal; to live fully expressed lives and to fulfil their true potential.

This is the world that I want for my grandchildren and I believe that trauma-informed coaching has a part to play in creating this world.

That is why I am inviting you to enrol in the Trauma-Sense programme.

In this unique, two-part programme you can become first Trauma-Aware and then Trauma-Informed. You can become that coach who truly ‘sees’ a client with trauma and helps them to shift towards healing and thriving.

I hope you will join me.

“It was all powerful - but the most useful aspect was your ability to relate to coaching: helping us to understand the less obvious signs of trauma and that some of our strategies are not suitable and could exacerbate the clients emotions.”

(Kat Holden, Coach & Consultant)

The Trauma-Sense Programme

Part 1: Becoming Trauma-Aware

The first part of the Trauma-Sense Programme focuses on trauma awareness. As a stand-alone training it will help you to understand the true nature and causes of psychological trauma, how to recognise it in your clients and some initial guidance on how to work with clients who have a history of trauma. Completing Part 1 will also help you to understand your own responses and reactions to clients and will equip you with tools to take care of yourself so that you can provide a deeper, enlightened service for your clients.

The training is self-study, delivered through recorded video modules (with audio only options available). It is approximately 4 hours in duration; divided into over 20 bite-sized sections and includes a workbook and additional downloadable PDFs of important slides.

Dr Susanna will host a monthly hour-long LIVE Q&A via zoom, which can be accessed by anyone doing Part 1 of the Trauma-Sense programme. This is an opportunity to ask any clarifying questions you may have whilst completing the programme, as well as opportunity for discussion with peers who are becoming Trauma-Aware.

The topics  covered include::

  • Psychological trauma: what is it? What are potential causes? How common is it?

  • A brief history of psychological trauma; understanding why is not discussed

  • Begin to understand the neurobiology and how this links to symptoms & behaviours

“It has helped me feel more confident as a coach, better resourced to support my clients, and more compassionate towards their challenges. I feel better equipped to know how to deal with trauma if it comes up in a session, and more confident in knowing when I am able to deal with something and when I am best to refer on. EVERY coach should attend this training!!!”

The Trauma-Sense Programme

Part 2: Becoming Trauma-Informed

Having completed Part 1 of the Trauma-Sense Programme, you may choose to continue with Part 2 ‘Becoming Trauma-Informed’ to further bolster your skills and confidence when dealing with clients who have a trauma history.

In this 9-week programme, taught LIVE, you will deepen your understanding of psychological trauma & how to apply this understanding in your practice through a combination of teaching and experiential case-work.

Trauma-Sense Part 2 will always be capped at small numbers, to ensure a safe space to deeply explore these topics in relation to ourselves and clients.

The training will consist of:

Four LIVE 90 minute training modules with Q&A covering topics including:

  • Deepening the understanding of the impact of psychological trauma on the body, brain and behaviour

  • Trauma & the body, an exploration of the Polyvagal theory and its application to coaching

  • Collective trauma, transgenerational trauma and epigenetics

  • Trauma, highly sensitive people, neurodiversity

  • How trauma impacts attachment and the relation to our authenticity

  • Trauma & parenting; how your own trauma impacts parenting, and how to support a child with trauma

Three interactive 90 minute workshops

  • During these workshops you will have the opportunity to work through specific cases and examples - brought by the group - and learn how to put the teachings into practice. Please note that client confidentiality will be maintained throughout.

  • Two out of three workshops are compulsory to attend live to ‘pass’ the programme

Two 30 minute 1:1 calls for Q&A and feedback.

To complete the programme, you will need to complete a 1500 word assignment based on a client case-study demonstrating your understanding of a trauma-informed approach and your ability to apply this in your work.

As a participant in Part 2 of the Trauma-Sense Programme - ‘Becoming Trauma-Informed’, you will also have access to a dedicated Facebook group to share and ask questions.
